Port reception facilities on Kiel agenda

Organised in cooperation with the Port of Kiel and the Baltic Ports Organisation (BPO), it will be held in Kiel at the premises of Wissenschaftszentrum.

It will hope to strengthen support with between policy makers, administrators, port managers and representatives from the cruise/ shipping industry. Especially in relation to the development of a new network of Baltic ports equipped with port reception facilities (PRFs) for sewage from passenger ships.

The event’s aim is to bring together these representatives from different stakeholder groups and provide an update on regulatory development and implementation efforts related to PRFs.

Obligatory delivery of sewage from passenger ships remains one of BPO’s main priorities. Baltic ports need to be adequately prepared for the upcoming deadlines and costs linked to the development of necessary infrastructure.

Nikol Nielsen Gulis, head of department, ports and harbours and Åsa Wilske, market director, environment, Ramboll spoke to GreenPort back in April about the importance of port reception facilities in the Baltic Sea.

The dates for the special area restrictions is 1 June 2019 for new passenger vessels and 1 June 2021 for existing passenger ships.

A site visit of the Port of Kiel or the Municipal Waste Water Treatment of Kiel and a networking dinner will be a part of the event, which will take place on 30 June and 1 July 2016.
