Samskip expands Swedish rail service
Dutch logistic transport provider, Samskip Van Dieren Multimodal, is expanding its rail service in Sweden as of 2 May 2013 to improve its services for its customers.
The company’s new shuttle service will operate between Duisburg and Älmhult. The combi trains will be pulled by ‘through going’ locomotives, guaranteeing a transit time of only 15 hours.
Samskip Van Dieren Multimodal, which already operates daily shuttle trains to and from Helsingborg, Göteborg, Nässjö and Katrineholm, says it hopes the new service will strengthen its presence in the Swedish market. Together with its existing rail shuttles, the company operates a total of 42 rail shuttles per week in Sweden.
Johan Logtenberg, managing director, Samskip Van Dieren Multimodal, told GreenPort: “We saw an increasing interest and need for intermodal services in the Southern part of Sweden. The additional service will increase our capacities and improve our leadtimes to and from the South of Sweden.”
He added: “The new combi trains will benefit the environment as the pre and on-carriage trucking operations will be decreased by several kilometres. All of the trains will depart from our combi terminal in Duisburg.”
The combi trains can carry 13.65m Huckepack mega trailers, as well as 45ft curtain sided containers.
