The new underwater gauge has been designed with a number of key features in mind, including a bright AMOLED display, which is easily viewable by both the diver and camera even in poor visibility, updated topside and reporting software and the introduction of twin crystal probes to help with measurement on highly attenuated materials like cast iron, anchor chains or heavily corroded steel.

“The launch further enhances our portfolio of NDT and inspection products that we have in our inventory,” said Ian Huggins, general manager, Unique System FZE.

Founded in 1983, Cygnus pioneers the digital multiple echo technique, which measure metal thickness through protective coatings in a “reliable and repeatable way”.

Cygnus’ new gauge also feature has a new single echo mode where twin crystal probes can be used. The company says this is useful on uncoated surfaces that have extreme front face and back wall corrosion, making measurements in multiple echo difficult.

The gauge can be mounted on to the wrist, giving the diver a free hand, and features an auto log data log option, which can store up to 5,000 measurements.
