Wärtsilä dual-fuel technology for US market
Wärtsilä’s 20DF dual-fuel engine is available to buy in the US market, making it easier for vessel owners to comply with strict US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 4 emissions.
The dual-fuel technology enables vessels to run primarily on LNG, with the option to switch to conventional marine fuels if necessary.
Wärtsilä’s technology is proving popular with fleet owners operating within the North American ECA, where strict control is now in force on emissions on SOx, NOx and particulate matter.
“The Wärtsilä 20DF will further accelerate the adoption of LNG as a marine fuel in the US,” said Lars Anderson, vice president, four-stroke, Wärtsilä Ship Power.
“The ability to meet EPA Tier 4 emissions requirements without the need for exhaust after-treatment, while at the same time increasing the safety and operational flexibility for LNG vessels, provides significant value to our customers,” he added.
