Europa Terminal scheduler goes live

INFORM and PSA Antwerp have announced the successful go-live of the Integrated Terminal Scheduler (ITS) at Europa Terminal, marking a significant milestone in the terminal’s ongoing modernisation program under Project Emerald.

The deployment, completed in March 2026, enables dynamic optimisation of the terminal’s horizontal transport operations across automated stacking cranes, straddle carriers and quay cranes. The system has been introduced while the terminal remains fully operational, despite extensive refurbishment work taking place in phases across the site.

Europa Terminal faces the challenge of maintaining uninterrupted service levels while sections of the facility are taken offline for reconfiguration. INFORM’s ITS platform was chosen to coordinate hybrid operations and optimise equipment scheduling throughout this modernisation process and beyond.

“Our team specialised in container terminal optimisation has worked intensively on this project,” said Alex Van Winckel, director strategic relations and sales, Terminal & Distribution Center Logistics at INFORM. “Managing such complexity while maintaining service continuity illustrates the impact of advanced optimisation in complex environments.”

The ITS solution provides real-time synchronisation between cranes and transport equipment, helping reduce bottlenecks, minimise unnecessary equipment movements and improve operational efficiency. INFORM said the platform also gives terminal staff enhanced operational visibility through its control room interface and management-by-exception capabilities.

The phased rollout began with ASC and SC optimisation, while integration with newly delivered dual hoist quay cranes is scheduled for later in 2026 once commissioning is completed.

“The ongoing partnership between PSA Antwerp and INFORM underscores both companies’ commitment to operational excellence and innovation in terminal automation,” said Dr Eva Savelsberg, senior vice president, Terminal & Distribution Center Logistics Division at INFORM.

“It demonstrates our capacity to help leading terminals navigate transformation while remaining fully functional and efficient.”
