Port of Barcelona enhances security

As one of the Mediterranean’s major logistics hubs, the Port of Barcelona has seen rapid growth in recent years, prompting the port authority to launch a modernisation project aimed at creating a safer, smarter and more sustainable environment.

“The flexibility and scalability of Security Center have allowed us to centralise all our systems, reduce response times and improve operations,” said Dídac Höflich, ICT infrastructure project manager at the Port of Barcelona.

“Genetec has provided us with a long-term solution that evolves with our needs, while also giving us peace of mind, knowing we are prepared for any challenge.”

Previously the port’s security system lacked the interoperability needed for efficient real-time management across a wide range of devices. To address these challenges, the port adopted Genetec’s open, unified platform, integrating video surveillance, access control, intrusion detection and other technologies into a single interface.

Since migrating its CCTV infrastructure from 180 to over 530 cameras, with plans to exceed 800, the port has also integrated advanced tools such as video analytics, forensic analysis, fire detection and real-time occupancy monitoring.

The new system has already delivered tangible benefits, streamlining workflows, enhancing crowd and vehicle management during major events like the America’s Cup, and generating significant cost savings through improved maintenance and operational efficiency.
