San Diego adopts EmissionInsider platform

Approved by the Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners on 23 June 2026, the agreement makes EmissionInsider the 14th project supported by the BEI. Established in 2016, the programme promotes sustainable, ocean-based technologies that strengthen the region’s blue economy while improving environmental resilience.

The EmissionInsider platform has been designed to help ports collect, integrate, analyse and report emissions data across their operations. By providing greater visibility of direct, indirect and value chain-related emissions, the technology enables port operators to identify where emissions occur, detect bottlenecks and prioritise areas where improvements can deliver the greatest benefits.

“With EmissionInsider, we’re helping ports better understand emissions from ships and other outside operations they don’t directly control, so they can take informed action to reduce air pollution and advance decarbonisation,” said Sjoerd de Jager, co-founder and managing director of PortXchange.

The system is expected to support the Port of San Diego’s Maritime Clean Air Strategy by providing more comprehensive emissions insights to inform future planning, environmental reporting and operational decision-making.

The project also reflects the increasing importance of accurate emissions data as ports work to meet ambitious decarbonisation targets while managing activities beyond their direct operational control.
