Port Botany expansion benefits region

Ports and Waterways Minister Paul McLeay, reflecting on the wider economic gains of the expansion, noted that around 250 workers had been involved in the production and placement of the massive counterforts since mid 2009.

The counterforts – giant seven-storey concrete blocks – form the 1.85km waterfront for the new terminal and its five shipping berths.

“This project has had a very real positive impact on the economy. Many of the materials used in the project have come from across the state,” Mr McLeay said.
