Port Tarakohe options mulled
Tasman District Council has announced it will be reviewing all options for the future of Port Tarakohe as it prepares its next ten-year plan.
The council has invested over NZ$3m (US$2.3m) in the port, located on the north-western corner of the South Island, in harbour dredging, breakwater extension and building of both a commercial and recreational marina.
Although now valued at NZ$11m (US$8.6m), the port is not currently operating at a profit, with its booming marina business not being matched on the commercial side.
