Seattles clean and green ambitions
The US Port of Seattle has labelled itself “the cleanest, greenest, most energy-efficient port in the nation”, and a key part of this has been signing a number of Memorandums of Understandings with other groups.
“We have long been green in our landscaping – 100% organic and recycling – and we have received the Salmon Safe Award in our parks,” says Lindsay Pulsifer, general manager of marine maintenance at the port.
“We have robust energy savings programmes, including lighting changes, HVAC refinement and upgrades, and consumption awareness. We also recycle everything we possibly can, but also look to purchase green containers and products. Most of these programmes were developed at the suggestion of employees.”
Seattle has also engaged with its local EnviroStars organisation, with Salmon Safe, and with fuel suppliers to acquire biodiesel, says Ms Pulsifer.
