SINES SEEKS SPANISH INVESTMENT
The Portuguese government, in an attempt to promote the port of Sines, is making financial incentives available for companies that want to invest in it.
Leif Wallin, president of trailer handling for the Finland-headquartered company, confirmed that Kalmar is “involved in hybrids in a couple of projects”, working with the US Environmental Protection Agency in the ports of Long Beach and New Jersey.
Situated some 107 kilometres south of Lisbon, Sines is being marketed at companies in South West Spain that might consider it as a possible alternative to other regional ports such as Algeciras. However, currently, the container terminal has but one client, MSC, which is proving to be something of a disincentive for Spanish exporters.
