A ground-breaking project has launched to create a digital corridor between the maritime and inland port communities of northern Europe.
Platform operators Portbase and RheinPorts have joined forces to optimise the sharing of data among the seaports in the Netherlands and those on the Rhine. The Port of Rotterdam, duisport and Port of Switzerland are supporting this initiative as shareholders and ambassadors.
As the first implementation of a 2022 memorandum of understanding, Portbase is combining its port community system with RheinPorts’ riverports planning and information system to improve efficiency and transparency along the supply chain.
As well as the ports and platform operators, the test phase will bring on board logistics companies including Danser Group to develop use-cases to support the data exchange.
The ultimate goal is to create a digital corridor providing secure data transmission and increasing efficiency for inland shipping and ports.
The test phase is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024 so that the roll-out can take place in 2025.
