Urgent Indonesian port growth needed

Already overstretched, ports will become bottlenecks if Indonesia doesn’t build better infrastructure, Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan told reporters.

Jakarta’s main port of Tanjung Priok, for example, needs to more than triple its container handling capacity in the next seven years, to keep up with expected growth in Southeast Asia’s largest economy.

“We have to ramp up our capacity or we are going to suffer,” he said.
