ADPC awarded for sustainability
ADPC takes its responsibility to the environment seriously
Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) has gained recognition for protecting the environment in which it operates - by winning three environmental awards in the past week.
Captain Mohamed Al Shamisi, vice president of ports at ADPC, said: “Winning these awards spurs us to continue our commitment to developing sustainable projects with minimal environmental impact”.
ADPC won the prestigious Environmental Protection Award at the International Bulk Journal Awards held in Antwerp last week. This was as a result of the group’s investment in the construction of a US$240 environmental breakwater around Khalifa Port protecting the Ras Ghanada coral reef.
The group has also won two awards for Port Operation and Environmental Protection at the 2011 Lloyd’s List Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards. The awards acknowledged ADPC for its efforts in operational efficiency during the past year.
The company continues to look to the future with the Kizad development. Located between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, Kizad aims to be one of the world’s most advanced deepwater seaports. The project forms part of the Abu Dhabi vision for 2030 – diversification of the economy using sustainable growth that’s less dependent on the oil and gas industries.
