International Terminal Solutions has launched a new safety module for inSIGHT, a management tool that offers an instant, live visualisation of the operational state, productivity and key metrics of the equipment used across a terminal.

The new safety module is targeted at straddle carrier operations and is designed to pick out problems and trends in the safe operation of the equipment prior to possible accidents occurring.

The company claims that the module lets management take proactive, remedial action based on facts, thus avoiding all post-accident complications associated with serious and possibly-fatal incidents.

Management can also identify areas of a terminal where layout or inadequate ground maintenance could cause carrier instability, calculating this in easy-to-comprehend graphical screens.

The tool will also pick out individual carriers with poor stability performance, delivers key performance indicator data for safe operational use and highlights machinery operators showing the greatest risk.

Terminals can now pre-emptively deal with problems head-on to find a solution for them at a much earlier stage, claimed International Terminal Solutions.

"We are helping forward-thinking terminal operators to avoid accidents in areas where the risk was previously difficult to quantify," said Richard Lambert, managing director of International Terminal Solutions.

"With clear information at their fingertips, it is very quick and easy for management to see the issues as it takes only a glance, using the tools and onscreen graphs and charts, to clearly identify areas for concern.

"inSIGHT is making a real contribution to employee welfare and minimising operational disruptions caused by accidents."
