Collision at Abidjan Port

Images have emerged online of the aftermath of a collision between COSCO’s general cargo ship Da Zhi and a ship-to-shore crane while berthing at Abidjan Port on May 18, just days after the spectacular crane collapse at Dubai’s Jebel Ali port.

According to reports, the vessel was coming into Berth 21 when it hit a gantry crane. The crane tumbled backwards, causing material damage to terminal equipment along with several containers. There were no reported injuries or casualties.

The incident has hindered operations at the port.

Da Zhi is under inspection after being detained as part of an ongoing investigation.
