DP World invited to join El Pilar project
Gustavo Leite, Paraguay’s Minister for Industry and Commerce, has announced that DP World has been invited to join the project to build a mega port terminal at the city of El Pilar.
The announcement was made during a visit to the United Arab Emirates, where various commercial agreements were signed with companies in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
To date, Paraguay’s Ministry of Communications and Public Works has received three technical and financial proposals for the modernisation of the Port of Pilar. Work, which is estimated to cost $4.82m, is due to start in March.
As part of development plans, the existing port infrastructure is to be considerably expanded, with major civil works undertaken and the container stacking area made larger. In addition, the general maintenance of the facility will be upgraded as will connecting roads.
In terms of equipment, at least one 45-tonne quay crane will be acquired, along with a forklift truck and at least one reachstacker.
