Dust-suppressing bulk warehouse opens

Chenglingji Port’s capsule-shaped bulk cargo warehouse can effectively prevent dust pollution from impacting operations elsewhere at the port, including the freight yard, according to Xinhua, China’s official press agency.

Standing at 470m long, 110m wide and 46.5m high, the warehouse is part of an environmental protection and quality improvement initiative at the port, locates along the Yangtze River in Yueyang.

The port anticipates that dust suppression at the port will benefit the eco-environment along the river.

As China focuses on both domestic and international port investment in line with its Belt and Road Initiative, it has been put under more pressure to address environmental issues.

In August 2015, the Chinese Ministry of Transport (MoT) released its Action Plan to Control Air Pollution from Ships and Ports (2015-2020), which aims to reduce shipping air pollution in three coastal port clusters by up to 65% by 2020.
