Fees waived for green ships

The Port of Tokyo will waive an entry fee for ships powered by LNG and hydrogen to promote the use of cleaner marine fuels, said the Tokyo Metropolitan government, according to Reuters. This incentive will be extended to LNG bunkering vessels as well.

This exemption will run for five years from 1 April. The ports of Yokohama and Kawasaki will also apply it to LNG-powered and LNG bunkering ships.

“The waiver is aimed at contributing to global efforts to boost use of cleaner fuels and support faster development of hydrogen-powered ships,” an official of the Tokyo metropolitan government said.

In February, it was announced that LNG will be supplied to ships at ports in Malaysia and Tokyo Bay, Japan following a new Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) between Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), under its wholly owned subsidiary Petronas Trading Corporation Sdn Bhd (Petco) and Sumitomo Corporation.
