Dust control in Ghana
Dust control is being tackled with new port equipment in Ghana.
Bedeschi has been awarded a contract for the design, procurement, manufacturing, supply, construction, supervision of installation, testing, commissioning and staff training of cargo handling equipment in the Port of Takoradi, Ghana.
The company said: “Bedeschi will supply 5 conveyor belts for a total length of av. 3km; 2 shiploaders A frame type mod. 50/1400 and one eco-hopper. The 2 shiploaders and the eco-hopper will be delivered fully erected from our shipyard directly to the client jetty with dedicated heavy lift vessel.
“The project is state of the art for the environmental standards (dust collection and de-dusting system specifically designed for this application). All the conveyors are closed, included the section where tippers and eco hoppers are in operation.”
Bedeschi will also provide the computerised control system for the equipment. The machines, managed by VFD, are expected to increase the port’s handling capacity by 25%.
The Port of Takoradi is owned by the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority. Major commodities handled through the port are manganese, bauxite, clinker, wheat, bulk and bagged cocoa, quicklime, containerised cargo, equipment for the mining and oil/gas industry.
