Full IMPACTE of freight shift proposal
A number of targeted, small scale investment projects underway at Europes ports are expected to bring improvements to cross-Channel freight transport.
Spear-headed by the Intermodal Port Access and Commodities Transport in Europe (IMPACTE), the projects range from the construction of new roll-on/roll-off berths at Zeebrugge to construction of a new container rail loading facility at Southampton, as well as developments at Portsmouth, and Oostende.
IMPACTE links 26 governmental and private sector organisations in Belgium, England, and France and aims to achieve significant reductions in HGV congestion in and around ports on both sides of the Channel by promoting efficient, multi-modal, freight transport, with an emphasis on the opportunities created by investing in rail and port infrastructure.
