Yangtze throughput rise

David Lammie of Yangtze Business Services adds that January to November saw cargo throughput total 1.25bn tonnes, a rise of 22.3%. However, out of this total only 154m tonnes, or about 12%, is foreign trade-related – the low foreign trade element reflects the fact that Yangtze throughput growth is driven by the inward domestic draw, rather than international goods movement, which makes it a fairly good indicator of the region’s development.

In all, container throughput in the first 11 months of the year jumped by 28% to 8.23m teu, which is near the rate of growth recorded before the worldwide economic downturn.
