Room for just three in Italy

Italy has only room for three major ports – and these are where investment should be focussed, according to Carlo Mearelli, president of Assologistica.

He characterises the Italian transport sector as having poor infrastructure and excessive bureaucracy, with many of those working within it benefiting from excessive privileges and not necessarily doing enough work to justify them.

In addition, changes need to be made to allow goods to be cleared in a few hours and not in days, as is the case currently.
