Port operators warned over pollution

Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has issued notices to Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) and two major companies handling coal at its terminal, according to Business Standard.

GSPCB has issued notices under the Air Prevention and Control of Pollution Act

The warnings were served under Air Prevention and Control of Pollution Act and the companies involved were allegedly accused of causing environmental hazards.

Adani Murmuago Port Terminal Private Ltd and JSW’s South West Port Ltd, alongside MPT, were issued warnings after it was noticed that dust pollution was emanating from the coal handling has increased in the port town of Vasco.

Business Standard reported that the GSPCB relied on the data collected from Air Ambient monitoring station which showed that the suspended particles were above permissible level.
