IPC focuses on being eco-green
Indonesian port operator, Indonesia Port Corporation II (IPC), has conducted a new programme to clean up the port of Tanjung Priok which includes litter collection and tree planting as part of its ‘Greening and environmental hygiene programme’.
The concept of the programme itself is essentially an effort to protect the environment and surrounding communities of the negative impact that may be caused by port operations. As well as development of ports as sustainable communities, ports are also required to use the latest technology to avoid or mitigate the negative impacts of port operations.
On the 19 December, tree-planting took place in an event that was attended by the head of the Port Authority, agency representatives in the Port of Tanjung Priok, and its operators.
IPC is applying the eco-green concept in all branches of the company, but the Port of Tanjung Priok was selected as the guinea pig for the pilot programme.
RJ Lino, director, IPC, said: “The greening and environmental hygiene programme is an activity that is easy and simple, as a symbolic step that will spur all stakeholders, to support efforts to implement the concept of eco-green IPC port.”
The campaign is also in line with the Government’s sustainability programme to plant one million trees. IPC has already planted a total of 200 trees and 1,000 liang liu aliander trees in and around its facilities and will be planting more in future.
