Bunkering to begin at Florida port in 2018

Operated by Pivotal LNG, JAX LNG’s facility, which has now received United States Coast Guard (USCG) approval, will feature a marine dock and truck loading capability.

Pivotal LNG said: “Without the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) letter of acceptance, JAX LNG would not be able to conduct marine operation and perform ship-to-ship bunkering…we are very pleased they have accepted the results of our risk analysis and have given us the go-head to proceed with LNG operations in the Port of Jacksonville, Florida.”

Vast storage capacity

The facility will have an initial liquefaction capacity of 120,000 gallons of LNG daily and 2m gallons of storage capacity.

This is the second Letter of Acceptance (LOA) Joint venture JAX LNG has received from USCG for the operation of its LNG facility at the port. It has also received approval from USCG to conduct ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operations with its partner TOTE Maritime’s Marlin Class ships and the LNG barge, Clean Jacksonville.

Since JAX LNG and TOTE Maritime received their first LOA from the USCG in August 2015, JAX LNG has delivered LNG to TOTE Maritime’s LNG fuelled container ships.

Pivotal LNG has demonstrated the ability to safely conduct LNG bunkering operations while TOTE Maritime simultaneously loads and off-loads cargo at the port, stated Southern Gas Company, owner of Pivotal LNG.
