The GreenPort Cruise & Congress Conference, now in its 16th year will take place in Piraeus, Greece from 20-22 October and includes individual sessions for Cruise & Congress complemented by joint plenary sessions. Its goal is to provide decision makers from the port community - port authorities, terminal operators, shipping lines, logistics companies - with a meeting place to both learn about and discuss the latest in sustainable development and environmental practice to enable them to effectively implement the changes needed to reduce their carbon footprint and to be more sensitive to environmental considerations.

The congress was last held in October 2019 and was hosted by the Port of Oslo. It attracted 180 attendees, including 98 port authorities, terminal operators and shipping lines representing 30 countries. Previous attendees range from Port of Seattle, Sprott Planning and Environment and International Association of Ports and Harbors. Renee Hovey from Sprott Planning and Environment referred to GreenPort as “a valuable forum to learn about leading progressive initiatives in the port, terminal and shipping sectors”.

This year’s conference will cover a range of themes including the EU’s new climate plan, Greening of ports and shipping, collaborative community projects, sustainable transport and logistics in the hinterland connections of the port, eco-cruise ships and sustainable cruise initiatives in Europe.
