After a six-day stop on export containers in the end of May, yard density at the Port of Yantian is down to 65% making overall productivity increase to 85% of normal levels, said Maersk.

“The congestion in Yantian is clearing up, but noting that when one port is impacted it can become a downward spiral for neighbouring ports,” warned the shipping company.

Its figures show that while waiting time for ships at Yantian is half a day, the figures elsewhere are telling. Shekou has a waiting time of three and a half days, Nansha has a waiting time of four days, and Hong Kong has a waiting time of three days.

Maersk previously confirmed that 19 of our mainline services were impacted by the congestion in Yantian.

“Resuming operations from Yantian will be done in a controlled manner to avoid new bottlenecks…” added the company.

Yantian Port’s congestion issues began after an outbreak of COVID-19 in Shenzen.
