Finland’s Deltamarin Ltd and Oy Langh Ship AB are joining forces to bring a new scrubber to the market.
Langh Ship says its new scrubber provide ships owners with a unique closed loop scrubber solutions in time for the new sulphur directive in the Sulphur Emission Control Area (SECA), which comes into force in 2015.
In the SECA area, which includes the Baltic Sea, the North Sea, the English Channel, North American coastal area and the US Caribbean Sea, all ships must use fuel with a sulphur content of less than 0.1% starting from January 1, 2015.
“When we heard about the new innovative solutions that Langh Ship had come up with, we knew this was the product Deltamarin wants to be involved in,” said Mika Laurilehto, managing director, Deltamarin.
The scrubber has already been tested on Langh’s MS Laura and has been installed on an additional four vessels.
The first full scale scrubber installation has now been in operation for one year onboard MS Laura, a 6,500 tonne general cargo vessels equipped with a 6MW main engine. Without interruptions or down times, the DNV GL classified system has been in operation year round, even through Baltic winter and ice conditions.
“The scrubber has proved to be very easy to operate, stable and does not add much extra workload for the crew,” explained Reino Versaari, senior technical advisor.
The new joint venture, DeltaLangh, will deliver the scrubs, which can also be supplied on a turnkey basis.
“The scrubber has been such a success that we are sure it will benefit other ship owners as well,” added Laura Langh-Lagerlöf, commercial manager.
