The 9th GreenPort Congress and 2nd GreenPort Cruise Conference earlier this month saw nearly 200 delegates attending from all over the world to be informed about, and to discuss, the latest in sustainable environmental practice in order to help reduce carbon footprint whilst becoming more sensitive to the environmental considerations within the whole port community. Don’t worry if you weren’t able to attend – you can download the papers and presentations now!

All papers and presentations given at the conference – totalling over 80 – are now available to download and highlights include the following keynote presentations:

GreenPort Cruise Conference

The ongoing debate between the use of onshore power supply (cold ironing) or LNG!

This session included four presentations giving delegates a detailed insight into the following incredibly important and topical areas: air emission regulations and retrofitting cruise ships to run on LNG, cold ironing or LNG – a study of Mediterranean ports, saving energy and reducing emissions through the supply of power to cruise ships in ports and the current shore power project for cruise ships in Hamburg.

Improving cruise ship terminals.

Moderated by David Pino, who is the President of Working Group, Guidelines for Cruise Terminals of PIANC, the three presentations gave an excellent insight into the different innovative design can make to the users experience, including cruise facilities for Harlingen Port, improvements to Barcelona cruise terminals and designing a cruise terminal in Miami.

GreenPort Congress

Customers’, users’ and stakeholders’ perception of Green Ports

This session included some fantastic insights into the terminal operators’ views on a green port, together with a view into a public health agency in Barcelona.

As well as the presentations given in the working groups, the outcomes from the working groups are also included, so a great way to find out the industry’s response to issues raised in session 1.

Global versus regional regulations and their impact on ports

Delegates enjoyed a high level discussion drilling down on the regulations affecting ports and terminals and again the working groups that followed (covering air quality, water quality and waste) endeavoured to show some practical answers to these issues and the presentations and outcomes are included.

Financing opportunities for green port projects – EC co-funding opportunities

Gave an excellent insight into how to gain financing to implement some of these initiatives and Session 6 reported on some of the ongoing research from projects aiming to reduce emissions and reducing the energy used at ports and terminals.

A superb event with some incredibly important and insightful presentations and information. If you were not able to attend then download the presentations please view here, email congress@greenport.com or call +44 (0) 1329 825335.
