Materials handling specialist Sennebogen has introduced its 8130 EQ model, which incorporates its radical Equilibrium system (EQ).

The 8130 EQ, which began commercial operations in October, offers an outreach of 27 metres and a maximum 10-tonne working load. Since then, Sennebogen has made available the smaller 8100 EQ and the larger 8160 EQ, the latter being of particular interest to port bulk handlers.
Chief executive Erich Sennebogen puts savings at up to 50% in operating costs and energy costs are achievable, claiming that it is difficult to move dry bulk commodities with greater cost-efficiency.
He explains that the EQ units are controlled using just two cylinders. A coupling bar is then routed parallel to the boom, connecting the stick with the rear counterweight and ensuring an effective transmission of force.
“With each manoeuvre, forces are held in balance in accordance with the classic lever principle. Thus the expenditure of force for moving the equipment can almost be completely dispensed with. Even with high loads and a large reach, only the attached load must be moved and driven,” he says.
Combining EQ technology with an electro-hydraulic drive concept means additional significant savings are also possible.
For those dry bulk terminals regularly receiving calls from handysize vessels, the 8160 EQ is particularly well suited. Scrap terminals are also a target market, says Mr Sennebogen, who stresses the high visibility from the cab that the EQ units offer, which is achieved thanks to the mast structure and elevated cab position.
“We also want our EQ units to be as customer-specific solutions, which is why they have been given a modular structure, allowing diverse equipment variants to be incorporated. These vary from stationary undercarriages, crawler tracks or rail solutions, extending even to a pontoon setup, with diesel engines offered as an option,” he says.
