First Gasum LNG terminal takes shape

Gasum says Tahkoluoto Port, which is accessible throughout the year, has an existing infrastructure, active ship traffic and many significant industrial clients operate in its vicinity, making it the perfect location.

The company will also build an efficient LNG distribution logistics chain based on truck transport around the 30,000m³ terminal.

The new terminal is expected to “diversify” Finnish gas and fuel markets and improve the competitiveness of businesses using LNG, since in recent years, the price of LNG has been more stable than that of replacement fuels and price development has been moderate.

Gasum says it has applied for funding for the LNG import terminal from the Ministry of Employment and the Economy and expects to begin construction this year.

Gas supply will be targeted to fit the needs of the industry as well as maritime and road traffic. When complete, the LNG import terminals will serve the entire western coast from Hanko to Kokkola.

The company also has plans to build another LNG import terminal at Pansio, Turku. It says this, along with its recent acquisition of Skangass, will broaden its LNG distribution infrastructure in the Nordic countries.

The Pori terminal is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.
