As ship efficiency measures become compulsory for all vessels, Israel based marine applications provider, Totem Plus, has a new Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator (EEOI) for the shipping industry.
Best practices for the fuel efficiency operation of ships, including speed management, have been designed by the IMO and set by the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL), in the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP).
In January 2013 it will become mandatory for all owners and operators over 400gt to plan, manage and document measures that are being implemented to reduce fuel consumption and lower greenhouse gases and other emissions and this will affect respective ports too.
Totem Plus’s EEOI calculator will allow users to store and retrieve the relevant data for each specific ship and monitor the EEOI performance accordingly - and it's free of charge.
