GREENPORT CONGRESS OCEANIA 2023: 15-17 FEBRUARY 2023, NEWCASTLE, AUSTRALIA

Submissions are now invited for the inaugural GreenPort Congress Oceania, hosted by Port of Newcastle from 15-17 February 2023. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Identifying practicable options for port sustainability’.

As the first host port of GreenPort Congress Oceania Port of Newcastle is committed to driving the principles of sustainability throughout its operations, internal culture and the way it engages with customers and communities, diversifying its trade into areas such as hydrogen. It is the first port in Australia and New Zealand to become a member of the International EcoPorts network and have been working across the Pacific region to advocate for the benefits of the EcoPorts initiative.

Greenport Congress Oceania will bring together port authorities of all sizes, terminal operators, shipping lines and logistics operators from around the world to learn about the latest in sustainable development and environmental practices from within the Oceanic region and beyond.

Companies, organisations and individuals are invited to put forward a 250-word abstract by 30th November on the following topics:

  • Climate Change – Mitigation and adaptation for climate challenges within ports. Considering trends, market forces, and emerging opportunities for ports & suppliers implementing climate change solutions.
  • Green logistics: multimodal supply chains. Discussing the challenges and options of implanting sustainability within the logistic chain.
  • Pathway to sustainable ports - what does the future hold? Including environmental sustainability - Improving air quality/greenhouse gases reduction, waste management process in ports and monitoring waterways and pollution. As well social sustainability - women in maritime, diversity and inclusion and cultural heritage.
  • Green Financing - Investment risk 101. Considering what lenders are looking at when considering debt transactions with customers and what green financing options are available within the maritime sector.
  • Collaborative community projects. Exploring integration between the port and the local community.

Abstracts should be no more than 250 words and should be sent, with a biography of the speaker, headshot photo and logo, to conference producer Josie Gilchriest congress@greenport.com by 30th November to be considered for by the programme committee.

Preference will be given to case study based abstracts/presentations from ports, terminals, liner companies and suppliers demonstrating good practice.
