A study is also ongoing into deepening the navigation channel serving the port, from its current 35 feet depth to 38-40 feet.
Several road and rail infrastructure projects have been moving ahead this year in support of the port’s rapid growth, says Stockton’s director of marketing, Bill Lewicki.
The Port of Stockton Expressway features a newly constructed bridge and road system to give improved connections between port and the main state highway, and take port traffic away from local residential areas.
At the East Complex, the port has just completed a new rail interchange yard, providing an additional 5,500 feet of track.
Meanwhile, agreements have been signed for the construction of a new cold store at the East Complex; this will occupy nearly 18.5 acres and provide nearly 400,000 sq ft of chilled, cold and frozen space for both domestic and import/export customers. The project is expected to take four years to complete – it will be operated by Inland Cold Storage and represents nearly $40m of private investment.
