Strong volumes from Canadas princely port

Canadas Port of Prince Rupert sidestepped the global economic slump to record a moderate increase in traffic in 2008.

Volumes rose to 10.6m tonnes in 2008, led by growth in box throughput at the new Fairview Terminal.

Fairview handled 181,890 teu in its first full year of operations, following the facility’s opening in late October 2007.

The terminal’s throughput for the first six months was 42,555 teu, surging to more than 300% in the second half of 2008 to 139,335 teu on the back of extra calls from the COSCO/CKYH Alliance service in July.
