Describing the app as a “world first” which would be “disrupting bridge simulation in future”, LWA chief executive Atta Elayyan said it enables pilots to accurately experience the practice of getting on and off vessels via a rope ladder.
“We understand there are no solutions like this anywhere in the world using VR headsets,” he said.
“Our simulation is targeting the ‘embarkation training’, which is the physical process of safely manoeuvring outside the pilot boat and climbing a nine-metre ladder to board the ship, while both the pilot boat and ship are under way.”
Mr Elayyan added that the “highly cost-effective VR training system” required minimal physical space, was portable and also ensured PoAL and other users would not have to deploy costly ship bridge simulators.
