Squamish Terminals joins Green Marine

Canadian deep water break bulk terminal, Squamish Terminals (SQT), has become the fifth new member on the West Coast of North America to join the Green Marine environmental programme.

SQT is located near the Howe Sound, British Columbia, Canada

The programme, which is the largest voluntary environmental programme for the maritime industry in North America, aims to improve participants’ environmental performance and sustainability with all operations.

David Bolduc, executive director, Green Marine, said: “Green Marine’s evaluation and reporting system will allow Squamish Terminals to benchmark its environmental performance. It is also an excellent way to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability.”

SQT, which handles forestry, steel and project cargo, is located at the north end of Howe Sound fjord near Vancouver. Its participation in the Green Marine initiative adds to its involvement in the Squamish Estuary Management Committee and the annual Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup.

Ron Anderson, president and CEO of Squamish Terminals, added: “In the past couple of decades SQT has played a key role in the preservation and enhancement of both Howe Sound marine life and of the estuary through its partnerships with local conservation groups. We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to work, live, play and volunteer in this wonderful community.”
