SLPA’s Port of Colombo is aiming to take payment for all imports electronically allowing port users to do the work from their own homes or offices without the face to face or paper trail which normally accompanies the process.

General Daya Ratnayake, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), said that this special facility will enable port users to make their port payments easily “without hassle.”

Being proactive

In the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, all terminals at the Port of Colombo have been made readily available geared towards keeping required services running smoothly for stakeholders.

Putting in place e-clearance is just one aspect of this.

SLPA and all other terminals of the Port of Colombo have been able to maintain all port operations with the implementation of a strategic crisis management plan during the pandemic.

Complying with the Government Health Regulations, this has served to protect port employees and port users.

The Port of Colombo is the largest and busiest port in Sri Lanka. Located in Colombo, on the southwestern shores on the Kelani River, it serves as an important terminal in Asia due to its strategic location in the Indian Ocean.

With a current capacity of 7 million teu and a dredged depth of over 15 m (49 ft), the Colombo ranks among the top 25 ports.
