Vietnam approves Quang Ninh port

Vietnam has approved a foreign consortiums plan to invest $315m in a seaport and industrial zone complex in northern Quang Ninh province, the government has confirmed.

The consortium includes CDC International Corp from the Cayman Islands, Asia Infrastructure Development Co from Hong Kong and Singapore’s Tien Ich Trung Dong Co, the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s website said.

The project spans over 1,100 ha of land and water. Investors will build an industrial park and a port with 10 wharves, according to information from the Vietnam Ports Association.

“The project includes three phases with the first scheduled to last from 2017-2021, the second from 2022-2031 and the third from 2032-2036,” the Ministry statement said.

While Quang Ninh is building itself a pro-business reputation there are problems upcoming as the Trans-Pacific Partnership pact, of which Vietnam was one of the 12 signatory nations, now looks uncertain following the US presidential election.
