It covers the provision of 86 Automated Stacking Cranes with delivers set to be scheduled in phases between 2018-2020. The value of the contracts will exceed €200m.
VPA has notified Konecranes of its intention to award two separate contracts to Konecranes upon approval by the VPA Board of Commissioners at its November 15, 2016 meeting, and upon coming to agreement with Konecranes on the final contract terms.
“Konecranes ARMGs have a light, intelligent steel structure. When this is combined with our Active Load Control (ALC) technology, the cranes deliver fast, accurate container stacking over a range of real world conditions,” said Cindy Shi, marketing manager of ports at Konecranes Asia Pacific, which includes Australia and New Zealand.
She added: “Konecranes has an excellent track record of ARMG system project delivery, from the system design phase through to commissioning and hand-over, which has been proven in service around the world. Examples are found in the USA, Spain, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates as well as the Sydney and Brisbane International terminals in Australia.”
The first contract shall be for the procurement of 60 Automated Stacking Cranes for Norfolk International Terminals (NIT).
VPA also intends to award a second contract for the procurement of 26 Automated Stacking Cranes for Virginia International Gateway (VIG).
