Stena Line invests in shoreside power

Stena Line is planning to set up shoreside power links for the majority of its vessels used in Scandinavian operations as part of the company’s long term work aimed at reducing environmental impact.

The investment will total SEK 75- 100 million. “We regard this as an important step in our endeavour to minimise the environmental load at the ports that we visit,” says Fredrik Lantz, Area Director for Scandinavia. “The vessels in our fleet which at present do not have a shoreside power link when berthed have their engines running for approximately 32,000 hours per year and this investment therefore represents a significant environmental saving.” The task of installing shoreside power links will commence shortly and is due to be completed by 2010 at the latest. The first step in the installation of shoreside power links will be at the Port of Gothenburg where Stena Line operates nine vessels.
