The excavator, worth £77,000 was one of two taken in Lincolnshire August this year.
It was recovered in September when the Ports Police at Heysham Dock checked a JCB excavator, destined for Cork, with TER.
“Police became suspicious when the haulage driver couldn’t say exactly where in Cork the JCB was being taken and checked the excavator’s identity data with TER, ” says Tim Purbrick, manager at TER, which operates an international database of owned and stolen plant and equipment.
“The check that TER made on the serial number plate revealed that the JCB’s plate had been stolen from another model of JCB excavator. A man was arrested.
