Port Strategy: Flooding at Itajai dampened Brazilian throughput figures

The port of Itajaí, whose draught was severely limited following heavy rains at the end of last year, has been unable to accept some consignments.

This has indirectly benefited the port of São Francisco, where exports in January were up by 91%.

Santos, which had expected to handled 79.1m tonnes last year, actually reported throughput of 81m tonnes, while Navegantes reported traffic being 70% lower than projected in December and January.
