According to the Wilmington Fire Department, the man was a contractor who was cleaning the inside of a storage container tank for fruit juices and fell 50-feet to the base of the tank on Wednesday 9 January.
John Looney of the Wilmington Fire Department said the 30-year-old sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Citrosuco stated that the accident occurred during operations carried out by Enerfab, one of its contractors.
It said: “Citrosuco confirms an accident at its terminal at Port of Wilmington, in the United States. The accident occurred at the operations of Enerfab, one of its contractors and involving one of Enerfab´s employee. Citrosuco is taking all necessary measures and remains at the disposal of the authorities to provide any necessary information.
Gulftainer, which signed a 50-year concession with the state of Delaware to operate the Port of Wilmington Delaware last year, stated: “We are deeply saddened by this tragic event.”
