Wanganui battle cools

A bitter dispute between the Wanganui District Council and River City Port (RCP) over the Port of Wanganui appears to have quietened after a crunch recent meeting between the key players.

Wanganui mayor Michael Laws had publicly accused RCP of not adequately investing in or maintaining the infrastructure, and sought Parliamentary legislation to regain control.

In retort, RCP accused the council of blocking its plans for development and initiated legal action to block the legislative move. Both sides are now playing their cards close to the chest.
