WATERFRONT STADIUM PLAN SLAMMED

New Zealands transportation industry has been scathing of a suggestion by Rugby World Cup Minister Trevor Mallard that Ports of Aucklands Axis Bledisloe container terminal could be used to develop a stadium for the 2011 event. With an upgrade to Aucklands Eden Park priced at about NZ$300m, the Government has announced it is now evaluating the waterfront site.  

However,Tapper Transport proprietor Simon Tapper labelled the proposal a “whimsical toss-away idea from some stupid politician”.Maritime Union of New Zealand Auckland branch president Denis Carlisle said the proposed site was not appropriate and added “the port can’t afford to lose the space”
