Worked killed at Tauranga

A 61-year-old man died of severe head and chest injuries after being struck by a forklift at the Port of Tauranga on the night of June 21.

Understood to have been an employee of the Independent Stevedoring company, the man apparently neither saw nor heard the forklift as he stepped into its path. Two ambulances were called to the scene and four paramedics worked for about half-an-hour to save him.

Both Police and the Department of Labour are investigating the incident.
