European Commission looks for climate solutions

As part of its climate action campaign, ‘A world you like. With a climate you like’, the European Commission has launched a low-carbon contest in a bid to find and test some of the most creative and innovative green initiatives across the EU.

Connie Hedegaard, EU Commissioner for Climate Action

The World You Like Challenge, which is open for three months, aims to provide a platform to showcase projects from individuals or organisations based in an EU Member State whose aim is to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Connie Hedegaard, EU Commissioner for Climate Action, who launched the contest, said: “The challenge is a great opportunity to move beyond mere talking about climate change. By submitting your project, you help us show that building a world we like with a climate we like is both feasible and affordable. And it won’t make our lives dull and grey.”

A jury led by Ms Hedegaard will select three winners from a shortlist, who will be honoured at the Sustainia Award Ceremony in Copenhagen in October 2013.

The campaign has a special focus on Bulgaria, Italy, Lithuania, Poland and Portugal. The national winners in these countries will see their projects featured in a national billboard campaign in autumn 2013.

The Commission’s climate action campaign, which was launched in October 2012, aims to promote cost-efficient solutions for achieving the EU’s objective of an 80% to 95% reduction in GHG emissions by 2050, as well as to encourage new solutions.
