Dover wins port sustainability award
Dover has won a major sustainability award after becoming the UK’s first net-zero port for Scope 1 and 2 emissions
The Port of Dover has received a major sustainability award at the British Ports Association (BPA) Conference 2026, hosted at its iconic Cruise Terminal 1 building.
The Port Sustainability Award recognises Dover’s achievement in becoming the UK’s first net-zero port for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by the end of 2025. The announcement was made during the conference finale.
“We are incredibly proud to have received this prestigious award at such a significant event for the UK ports industry, especially being hosted here in Dover,” said Megan Turner, environment and sustainability manager at the Port of Dover.
“It recognises the progress we have made on our journey to net zero, but also the positive impact our work is having across the wider maritime sector as we help shape a more sustainable and resilient future for our seas.”
The sold-out conference brought together more than 400 representatives from the UK ports industry, government, maritime organisations and supply chain partners for two days of discussion, debate and networking.
Doug Bannister, chief executive at the Port of Dover, said hosting the event provided an opportunity to showcase the port and town to the wider industry.
He said the attendance of Keir Mather MP, the UK government minister for aviation, maritime and logistics, local MP Mike Tapp and Dover’s town mayor, Cllr Bekah Dawes, demonstrated the connection between the maritime sector and local communities.
The conference provided a platform for industry leaders to discuss challenges facing UK ports and explore opportunities for growth. Turner also congratulated the port’s teams and fellow winners and finalists in the BPA Awards 2026.
